Luca Ferraris at the HK International Wine & Spirits Fair

Quality Italian wines are among those represented at the 2015 Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair, set for its eighth session at the Convention & Exhibition Centre from Nov. 5 to 7.

Among them is LUCA FERRARIS AGRICOLA from Castagnole Monferrato in the Piedmont region of Italy, which will make its fifth appearance at the fair, this year highlighting three wines for distributors and importers in the Greater China region.

Nurtured in an ancient wine-growing area – the village is home to the largest antique wine press in Europe – Luca Ferraris vintages reflect the deep character of the region.

“We are seeking quality distributors in mainland China,” said Chiara Ferraris, sales manager of the family owned vintner. “Our wines offer tremendous value for refined enjoyment and investment.”

One of the select wines on show is the winery’s BARBERA D'ASTI, which according to Wine Spectator magazine offers “a great price-to-quality ratio”.

Chiara has also highlighted the RUCHE' DI CASTAGNOLE MONFERRATO, a unique red wine with intense flavors and aromas of rose and litchi fruit, along with VINI DOLCI – sweet wines – such as Moscato and Malvasia di Casorzo, which she notes are “fine semi-sparkling wines ideal with fruit-based desserts, general desserts or as an aperitif”.

She will be available at the HK International Wine Fair, Booth 3F-E08, ready to share her passion for the family’s wine and sign deals with Chinese distributors.

Long-wanted mafia boss captured in bunker

With marches underway to support anti-mafia efforts across Italy, police captured a notorious boss in the deadly ’Ndrangheta crime organization wanted for nearly 10 years for his part in a massacre in Germany. Santo Vottari was found hiding in a bunker-like addition to a home in Reggio Calabria, a city on the toe of Italy’s boot across the water from Sicily. The 44-year-old was long sought by authorities after he was found guilty in absentia by an Italian court in 2009 for his part in mafia feud that triggered a shootout in Duisburg, Germany that left six dead. Milan moves to grab post-Brexit business

Italian Finance Minister Pier Carlo Padoan, Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano and Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala are headed to a roadshow in London to further promote Milan as a business hub in post-Brexit Europe. In their sights is the headquarters for the European Medicines Agency that will be forced to quit London. Milan is also bidding to become home to the European Bank Authority, the regulator of the EU’s banking system. The effort is part a scramble across the continent to grab large business and administration operations that will no longer have unfettered access from London.
